Government Agencies
California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH): DFEH's statutory mandate is to protect the people of California from discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations. The DFEH is the largest state civil rights agency in the country.
U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC): The EEOC "investigates" and oversees the investigations of more than 100,000 cases each year in the United States. The EEOC is a federal agency that is empowered to enforce the following laws:
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act ("Title VII")
Age Discrimination in Employment Act ("ADEA")
  Americans with Disabilities Act ("ADA")
  Equal Pay Act ("EPA")
The EEOC has no power to enforce laws that deal with the following types of discrimination which are illegal under other California laws: sexual orientation, marital status, and perceived age discrimination.
California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE): The DLSE provides a wide variety of services to the public, from wage claims adjudication and discrimination complaint investigations to enforcement of California's labor laws and Industrial Welfare Commission orders. DLSE also registers garment manufacturers and issues licenses to farm labor contractors, talent agencies, industrial home workers, and certifies studio teachers. DLSE has District Offices located throughout the State.
U.S. Department of Labor (DOL): The U.S. Department of Labor was created by Congress in 1913 "to foster, promote and develop the welfare of working people, to improve their working conditions, and to enhance their opportunities for profitable employment."
California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board (UIAB): Unemployment Insurance is a nationwide program created to provide partial wage replacement to unemployed workers while they conduct an active search for new work. Unemployment Insurance is a federal-state program, based on federal law, but executed through state law. Employers finance the U.I. program by tax contributions. In California, the EDD administers the U.I. program according to guidelines established by the U.I. Code of Regulations, Title 22.
